Privacy Policy
Last updated: September 24, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Cleanup handles information when you use the app. Cleanup is operated by PubWave and is designed to free up storage by finding duplicate photos, look-alike shots, blurry images, large videos, and duplicate contacts, and by compressing videos.
Information We Collect
Cleanup does not operate its own backend server for app usage data. Your photos, videos, and contacts are processed on your device. A smaller set of information may be shared with third-party services for purchases, subscriptions, ads, consent management, and app store functionality. We do not collect our own analytics, telemetry, or crash reports.
Processed only on your device
- Photo and video content, along with details such as dimensions, file size, creation date, and media type, read from your photo library so the app can group duplicates, look-alikes, blurry photos, screenshots, screen recordings, and large videos.
- Image fingerprints and sharpness scores computed from your photos so similar or blurry items can be grouped. These are derived on your device and are not uploaded.
- Text recognized inside your photos by on-device text recognition, kept in a local index so you can search your library by the words that appear in an image.
- Video files you choose to compress, together with the compressed copy the app writes back to your photo library when you approve it.
- The location stored in a video you compress, which is written into the compressed copy so it keeps the place it was recorded. It is read from the video itself, never from your device's location, and never uploaded.
- Contact records used to find and merge duplicates, read through the system contacts store.
- Contact backups you choose to save before merging or deleting contacts.
- App settings and your remaining free uses.
Shared with third-party services
- Purchase, subscription, and premium status provided by Apple, Google, RevenueCat, or the applicable app store.
- Advertising identifiers, ad interaction data, and consent signals when ads are enabled and permitted by your platform settings.
How We Use Information
We use information to:
- Scan your photo library and group items that are duplicated, similar, blurry, or unusually large.
- Recommend which copy to keep and delete only the items you confirm.
- Compress videos on your device and save the smaller copy when you choose to.
- Let you search your photos by text that appears inside them.
- Find and merge duplicate contacts.
- Provide premium features, subscriptions, purchase restoration, and entitlement checks.
- Show and measure ads when monetization is enabled and you are not premium.
Photos and Videos
Photo library access is used only to analyze and clean your library. Analysis, fingerprinting, sharpness scoring, text recognition, and video compression all run on your device. We do not upload your photos or videos to our servers, and we do not share them with advertising or purchase providers.
Deletion is always confirmed by you and carried out through the system photo library, so removed items follow your platform's normal Recently Deleted behavior and can be recovered there for a limited time.
Contacts
Contacts access is used only to detect duplicate entries and merge the ones you select. Contact records are read and written on your device and are not uploaded to our servers or shared with advertising or purchase providers. A backup you save before a change is kept in the app's storage on your device, where you can restore or delete it; like other app data, it is included in your device backups.
Advertising
The app may use Google Mobile Ads and Google User Messaging Platform to show banner and rewarded ads and manage privacy choices. Ads are not shown to Premium subscribers. Google may process device identifiers, ad interaction data, consent status, and other information according to its policies. Google Ads may derive approximate location from your IP address. Cleanup does not request device location permission for advertising. You can manage ad privacy choices where available in the app or in your device settings.
Purchases and Subscriptions
Purchases and subscriptions are processed by Apple, Google, and RevenueCat. We do not receive your full payment card details. We may receive purchase status, product identifiers, entitlement information, transaction metadata, and anonymous app user identifiers needed to unlock premium features and restore purchases.
Third-Party Services
The app may use third-party services including:
- Google Mobile Ads and Google User Messaging Platform for advertising and consent management: Google Privacy Policy and Google partner sites policy.
- RevenueCat for purchase and subscription management: RevenueCat Privacy Policy.
- Apple App Store and Google Play for app distribution, purchases, and platform services: Apple Privacy Policy and Google Privacy Policy.
Legal Bases
Where privacy laws require a legal basis, we process information to perform app functionality you request, honor your consent choices, comply with legal obligations, prevent fraud or misuse, and maintain app reliability.
Data Storage and Retention
Scan results, image fingerprints, the recognized-text index, contact backups, app settings, and your remaining free uses may be stored on your device. Subscription and purchase status may also be cached locally so premium access can load quickly and be restored through the app store or purchase provider.
Local app data remains on your device until you delete it, clear app data, reset settings, or uninstall the app. One exception: on iOS, a record of how many free uses you have left is also kept in the device keychain, so that reinstalling the app does not start the count over. It holds only those counts, stays on your device, and may remain after the app is uninstalled. Purchase records are retained by Apple, Google, and RevenueCat according to their policies. Ad consent records are retained according to Google consent management rules. Support emails are retained only as long as needed to respond, maintain records, resolve disputes, or comply with legal obligations.
Data Sharing
We do not sell your personal information. We do not share your photos, videos, or contacts with advertising or purchase providers. Information may be shared with service providers only as needed for ads, consent management, purchase management, app store functionality, legal compliance, fraud prevention, or troubleshooting.
Children
Cleanup is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn that personal information from a child under 13 has been provided to us, we will take reasonable steps to delete it or help the parent or guardian remove it from the relevant service or device.
Your Choices
You can disable permissions in your device settings, restore or manage subscriptions through the app store, and use available privacy choices for ads where required. You can also delete the app or clear app data to remove locally stored app data from your device.
Regional Privacy Rights
Depending on where you live, including regions such as the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, California, and other jurisdictions with privacy laws, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, export, or object to the processing of your personal information, withdraw consent where processing is based on consent, and opt out of certain sharing where applicable. We do not sell personal information. To exercise privacy rights, contact us at the email below. For information controlled by Apple, Google, or RevenueCat, we may direct you to the relevant provider because certain purchase, advertising, consent, and platform records are managed directly by those services.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy when the app, our services, or legal requirements change. The latest version will always be available on this page.
