Terms of Use
Last updated: October 7, 2026
These Terms of Use govern your use of Resurface. Resurface is operated by PubWave. By using the app, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the app.
Use of the App
Resurface helps you spend less time in distracting apps. It can pause an app before it opens, block the apps on your Distraction list during Focus, keep only your Essential apps open during Offline, run these on a schedule, and show your screen time and habits. It is meant for managing your own device. It is not a parental control app, and you should use it only on devices you own or are authorized to manage.
Resurface is a self-help tool, not medical or psychological treatment. If you are concerned about your wellbeing, talk to a qualified professional.
Blocking Depends on Your Device
On iOS, blocking relies on Apple's Screen Time framework; on Android, it relies on Usage access and the Accessibility service. These are controlled by the operating system, not by us. System updates, device settings, battery optimization, restrictions set by your phone's manufacturer, or turning a permission off can delay or stop blocking, and an app may appear briefly before its pause or shield screen does. Screen time figures come from the system and may differ from other tools.
Offline and Emergency Exits
An Offline session cannot be ended early from the dial. It leaves only your Essential apps open, so make sure that list includes anything you may need, such as phone calls, messages, maps, or apps you rely on for your health, safety, or work. The app offers a limited number of emergency exits each week. Do not rely on Resurface in any situation where not being able to open an app could put you or others at risk.
Delete Protection
On iOS, you can optionally enable Delete protection, including on the free plan. While Pause, Focus, or Offline is running, this setting prevents app deletion, including deletion of Resurface. You cannot change the setting while protection is running. The deletion restriction is lifted when no session or schedule is applying protection. Offline can only be left early through an available emergency exit. Consider these restrictions before enabling Delete protection or starting a session or schedule.
Subscriptions and Purchases
Resurface may offer Pro features through subscriptions or one-time purchases. Purchases are processed by the app store and may be managed through your Apple App Store or Google Play account.
- Prices, billing periods, and included features are shown in the app before purchase.
- Subscriptions automatically renew unless canceled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.
- Your account may be charged for renewal within 24 hours before the current subscription period ends.
- You can manage or cancel subscriptions in your Apple ID account settings or Google Play subscription settings.
- If a free trial is offered, it converts to a paid subscription unless canceled before the trial ends.
- Refund rules are controlled by the applicable app store.
- Pro access depends on app store validation and purchase provider availability.
- You can restore eligible purchases using the app or the app store account used for purchase.
Ads and Rewards
The free version may show banner, interstitial, and rewarded ads. Starting Focus or Offline manually uses a reward; an unused reward lets you start without another video. A video can also unlock Review’s month view for 24 hours. You can earn up to 5 rewards per local calendar day and keep up to 5 unused rewards across days. Pause does not use rewards. On the free plan, one schedule can be on at a time and it runs once, at its next start. A Pause schedule needs no reward; turning on a Focus or Offline schedule uses one reward for that run. Repeating schedules and running more than one at a time require Pro.
If no ad can be served when you request a reward, the app grants it without a video, subject to the same daily limit. Closing a video before earning its reward does not grant one. Rewards are non-transferable, have no cash value, and never shorten a wait or end a session early. Pro removes ads and the need for rewards. Ad availability and privacy choices may vary by region and platform.
Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
- Use the app to monitor or restrict a device or person you are not authorized to manage.
- Attempt to reverse engineer, modify, or misuse the app or its services.
- Use the app in a way that disrupts services, devices, or other users.
- Bypass subscriptions, ads, reward limits, technical limitations, or security controls.
No Affiliation
Resurface is an independent app. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Apple, Google, or any other brand referenced in the app unless expressly stated. Screen Time is a trademark of Apple Inc. All trademarks belong to their respective owners and are used only to describe compatibility as nominative fair use.
No Warranty
We work to make blocking, schedules, and screen time figures accurate and reliable. Because devices, operating system versions, manufacturer settings, and third-party services vary, we cannot guarantee that every app is blocked every time, that every schedule starts exactly on time, that every figure matches other tools, or that every feature is always available or error-free.
Purchases, subscriptions, and Pro access may also depend on app store validation and purchase provider availability.
Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of, or inability to use, the app, including missed calls, messages, or notifications, loss of data, or loss of revenue, or from an app being blocked or not blocked.
Changes to the App or Terms
We may update the app, change features, add or remove supported services, or modify these terms. The latest version will always be available on this page.
Termination
You may stop using the app at any time. If Delete protection is active on iOS, app deletion is restricted as described above. Deleting the app does not cancel an app store subscription. Pro access may be limited or revoked where required by app store rules, purchase validation, fraud prevention, legal compliance, or a violation of these terms.
Apple Terms
If you downloaded Resurface from the Apple App Store, Apple and Apple's subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce these terms against you after you accept them. Apple is not responsible for providing maintenance or support for the app, except where required by applicable law. Where these terms do not say otherwise, Apple's standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement also applies.
Governing Law
To the extent permitted by law, these terms are governed by the laws applicable in the operator's place of establishment, without regard to conflict of law rules. Mandatory consumer protection laws in your country or region may still apply.
Severability
If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the remaining parts will continue to apply.
